Manning Butterworth and Tom Olson have been working to create a NAR (National Association of Rocketry) Section and Tripoli Prefecture to help promote STEM model rocketry venues for youths of Southern Utah. In this effort a need for appropriate launch sites are required.
Manning Butterworth and Tom Olson are Level 2 certified with National Association of Rocketry (NAR) and Tripoli Rocketry Association. Manning was a previous President of the NAR. Tom is a licensed California Unlimited Rocket Pyrotechnic Operator.
We received our NAR Charter as Section #831 on November 6, 2018.
If you are already a NAR member and live in the Southern Utah area let us know who you are. If you are not a current member of the NAR you can join here.
Come help us support and grow this local club. We are inviting individuals, scouts, amateurs, and experts.

In 2024, Jeremy Nelson and Joe Hill approached Tom with knowledge of land near Beryl that the owner would let us use as a high-power launch site. The area falls within the NTTR (Nellis Test and Training Range) controlled airspace. Joe has been the point man negotiating a deal for a waiver from the NTTR. A few local rocketeers gathered and appointed Joe and Jeremy our first prefect and secretary so we could apply to Tripoli National for recognition as a prefecture.
In December 2024, we became Tripoli Prefecture #176 as well as being NAR Section #831.
If you have a TRA HQ membership number, live in the southwest Utah vicinity, and want to be involved in a Southern Utah Prefecture, please send us your email and TRA ID# to Contact Tripoli SUROC
